As sports injuries go, my latest one has run, and run and run. It's been 16 tough months since I last kicked a ball in anger but my meeting with a Harley Street medic has left me feeling rather optimistic.

I walked into his room at rock bottom but walked out of it feeling like a Premiership footballer. Well almost.

Dr Ralph Rogers is confident that a course of injections plus some physio will have me up and running again. Fingers crossed as I've been in constant pain for too long.

No-one in their right mind would befriend someone who is about to stick long needles into them and given my frustrations, there's every chance that insanity might have kicked in. However, Dr Rogers is no ordinary doctor. He works three times a week at Chelsea Football Club and was involved in the medical of £50m striker Fernando Torres. He also has more initials after his name than a Countdown conundrum.

Dr Rodgers is a black Jew born in New Jersey. During our initial consultation, he asked me if I'd heard about that Holy Mount Zion story in the nationals last week. Heard of it?" I replied. "I broke the story."

We exchanged business cards and I got thinking. He's Jewish, he's athletic, he's 6ft-plus. Maybe I should get him to play for my team, North London Raiders. Now that really would be some story. Watch this space ....

● Edgar Davids has been linked with a move to Maccabi Tel Aviv. Davids, who had successful spells with Ajax, Juventus, AC Milan and Spurs, trained with Maccabi as part of his marketing sponsorship commitments. Davids, who will be 38 next month, is a free agent having left Crystal Palace in November 2010.

Ligat Ha'Al teams can only field five foreign players but Maccabi are investigating whether Davids, who claims to be Jewish, can be signed as an Israeli citizen.

● Six Jewish players have helped two of Wingate & Finchley's youth teams reach finals in the Middlesex County Cup. Joshua Goldstein and Nayhan Sollosi inspired the Under 15 team to victory over St. Lawrence. Charlie Gould, Seb Garber, Liron Mannie and David helped the Under 18s beat Northwood.
