Open football Semi-final : Israel 0 GB 1 at half time

Captain marvel Sam Sloma gave Team GB a 1-0 half time lead in their Maccabiah Games Open football semi-final against Israel, which took them through to final clash with Mexico or Argentina.

Striker Paul Hakim put in an excellent cross that was met with a diving header from captain Sam Sloma to put Jonathan Kestenbaum's men in pole position against the favourites.

GB gave as good as they got in the opening exchanges of their semi-final against Israel in Nawe Sha'anan.

Up against Israel's national Under 19 side, who included some Under 20 players, GB looked focused walking out amid temperatures of 35 degrees.

Earlier, GB had the first chance when Sam Sloma's corner was only half cleared to Michael Warwick on the edge of the box but his volley flew over.

The second part of the first half was locked in midfield though the GB goal had no major scares.

But GB survived a couple of mishaps early in the second half as they looked to preserve a first half lead.

Israel made two substitutions early in the second half. The hosts hit the bar from outside of the area while a miscued header from Craig Ellis almost went into his own net.

GB will now play Argentina or Mexico in the final.

GB starting: Goldma, Soutar, Helman, Morris (sub: Sacks 67), Ellis, Lauffer, Sloma (capt), Hakim, Shulton, Hahn (sub: James Gershfield 60), Warwick (sub: Dan Stanton 65). Subs: Danny Berliner, Alex Levack, Danny Berg, Matt Stock.

60 minutes played: 1-0 GB. Sloma
