Garbacz makes dramatic U-turn at Hendon United

With just four days until of the new MGBSL season, David Garbacz has made a dramatic U-turn on his decision to retire from management and he has confirmed that he will lead Hendon United Sports Club A for one final term.

Garbacz left the club in a blaze of glory in May after guiding the Reds to the Peter Morrison Trophy for a third consecutive year.

In his post-match interview, he told JC Sport that he was leaving the club with a heavy heart, but today he announced that he will be in the dug-out for Sunday's league opener at FC Team A.

"I've decided to come out of retirement even before I actually started and I will be continuing as Hendon manager for the forthcoming season," Garbacz told JC Sport.

"The thought of Sunday mornings on Hampstead Heath with the wife and the dog was starting to make me wake up in cold sweats, and with the boys search for an appropriate manager throughout the summer proving unsuccessful I have agreed to do a Frank Sinatra/Arsene Wenger and help them out for one last year.

"The genuine plan was for one of Ari Last or Greg Corin (or both) to take over were we not to be able to find someone completely new, but they both have a lot to give on the playing side of things and felt that the combination of a player/manager role would be too difficult.

"I have not been involved in pre-season as I have wanted to completely leave that to them so that they could be sure they didn’t want the job.

"However, now the decision has been made. It is 100 per cent for sure only a one year extension but the squad is looking strong with some new good signings and if I didn’t think we could win the league this year I would never have agreed to come back.

"We will be going all out and now the uncertainty is over, everyone is excited for the season to begin."
