Euro bronze for Knyazyeva-Minenko

articlemain

Hanna Knyazyeva-Minenko became the first-ever Israeli woman to win a major European track and field medal when she won the triple jump bronze at the European Indoor Athletics Championships in Prague.

Knyazyeva-Minenko jumped an Israeli record of 14.49 meters, but looked disappointed after Bulgaria's Gabriela Petrova jumped 14.52 meters with her last jump to pip her for the silver medal. Russia's Yekaterina Koneva won gold with a 14.69 meter jump.

Knyazyeva-Minenko said: 'I'm so happy to win this historic medal for Israeli women's athletics."

She gained Israeli citizenship in 2013 after marrying Anatoly Minenko, an Israeli athlete. Knyazyeva-Minenko finished fourth in the triple jump at London 2012, representing Ukraine, with a leap of 14.56 meters.
