Cricket round-up and scoreboard: July 2

London Maccabi Vale 1st XI secured a nail-biting win in Division One of the Chess Valley League, while there were defeats for Belmont & Edgware and London Maccabi Vale 2nds.

Adam Brand and Ben Kohler were the top performers as Vale 1sts registered their second league win of the season in a thriller against Harrow Town at Rowley Lane.

Bowling first, captain Neil Lederman and Brand took three wickets apiece as Harrow were dismissed for 210 off 41.5 overs. There were also wickets for Benjamin Lederman (2-21), Steven Allweis (1-37) and Simeon Cohen (1-26).

In reply, Joseph Greenwall-Cohen and Adam Spooner made starts, but it was Brand and Kohler who produced the crucial partnership. Brand blazed three boundaries and two sixes in a 79-ball knock of 62, with Maccabiah team-mate Kohler contributing 34 off 50 balls.

Club chairman Alex Haffner added 31 valuable runs in a thrilling run chase in which the final pairing of Rayno Greenwall-Cohen and Jonny Gould got Vale over the line.

Elsewhere, Elliot Mayer scored his third Belmont & Edgware century in the defeat against Greenwood Park.

Mayer, who was assistant-manager of the Maccabi GB Junior Cricket squad at last summer's Maccabiah Games, was in excellent form, just days after playing in a game at the Oval.

Vale 2nds were unable to build on an excellent first-wicket stand of more than 160 between Danny Caro and under-15 star Jonathan Albert in a defeat against Grimsdyke at the Wilf Slack Memorial Ground.

The pair traded run for run, with Weiniger the first to depart, closely followed by Caro, who continued his recovery from a pulled hamstring.

A late flurry of wickets put the skids on Vale, who were on the receiving end of some big hitting in the Grimsdyke innings.

And London Maccabi Vale under-11's capped an excellent season by securing the title after a run-feast against Totteridge, with contributions from several batsmen.
