GARSTON VETS LEAGUE
GREENFORD 1 MACCABI LONDON LIONS 11
On the day Greenford were no match for a faster, fitter and altogether more ruthless Lions side who, right from the off, proved a level above. But this was a victory they fully deserved and played some great football and scored some fine team goals.
Bradley Lazarus impressed in the central role and deservedly opened the scoring after Lee Cash’s low cross was forced home at the second attempt by the Lions skipper.
Cash then smashed home a quite stunning second with a rasping volley from 25 yards and the front man completed a first half hat-trick with his further two sandwiching Alex Levack’s cross-shot that the keeper could only help in. To be fair to the Greenford stopper he made a couple of superb saves.
The only blemish saw a careless pass across his own box from Adam Harvey gift the home forward a simple goal.
Lions continued to ring the changes, and it was great to welcome three of the Maccabiah over-45s to the league. They all did very well, Gideon Barnett as he’s done so often bagged a brace, Mike Abrahams worked his socks off and James Temple capped an all action hour with two fine goals. Cash and Dan Stanton added to their tallies to complete the scoring.
Not as competitive a game as either side would have liked, but job done and Lions really did play well for long periods. A much tougher test awaits next week when Rayners Lane visit Rowley.
