GARSTON VETS LEAGUE
ABBEY 0 MACCABI LONDON LIONS 4
A well-contested game saw Lions always with the upper hand, eventually running out 4-0 winners despite the tricky pitch and a competitive opponent.
The early stages were pretty even, Abbey created two excellent chances that they spurned either side of Cash’s opener which came when Brad Lazarus’ deep cross was nodded back across goal by Craig Pearl leaving the Lions striker the simplest of tasks to put the side ahead.
The Abbey keeper was in excellent form, repelling good efforts from Mike Pearson, Cash, Pearl and Dan Stanton before the lead was doubled, this time Pearson linked up well to send Cash away, his left foot finish from the angle was unstoppable.
And shortly before the break, a slip by the Abbey centre half saw Cash robbed by Pearl, who strode on before striking home confidently.
Rob Glass, Adam Harvey and substitute Pete Lazard were all kept on their toes, the former having a particularly fine game throughout.
The second half saw the game get a little stretched, and although Abbey retained a goal threat they rarely threatened to find that final pass.
So in truth it was really about Lions, but a combination of excellent goalkeeping and some poor finishing meant they only had Cash’s hat-trick goal to show for their endeavours.
A week off follows before the side get ready for the Invitational Cup Final to be played at Rayners Lane FC, April 22, KO 3pm.
