Brits shine in Sydney

articlemain

It has been a good few days for the Brits down under. While our cricketers have been making hay in the fourth test in Brisbane, two Maccabi athletes have been catching the eye at the Maccabi Australia International Games in Sydney, which runs until January 2.

With delegations from 14 countries, including Maccabi Scotland, there have been eye-catching displays in a competition featuring sports from football to ten-pin bowling on Bondi Beach.

Orry Lovatt has represented Scotland in golf and GB Vice President Stuart Lustigman participated in lawn bowls for an international team. Lustigman's opening match was against one of three Israeli teams present and together with Harry Stein and Clive Wolff they won their contest 16-10.

Lustigman said: "Coming here to Australia completes my full set of Maccabi world and regional games. The Aussie hospitality and facilities have been outstanding with the opening ceremony taking place in the Sydney Olympic Park Sports Centre. The downside has been the wet weather, although it beats snow and ice."
