BECC 2nd edge home

Belmont 2nds came through in a nail-biting finish in a friendly against North Harrow.

Upon losing the toss, things started badly for BECC in the field with runs coming quickly, but once Gideon Mendel found the perfect line and length the tide turned.

Phil Mayer took a smart catch at mid-wicket to remove the dangerous opener off Mendel, who then proceeded to take two more wickets including a good catch at mid-off by newcomer Jason Mann, and one behind the stumps by Ryan Monk. Mendel ended up with 3-39.

Michell Mayer was brought on and took three very quick wickets which reduced North Harrow to 91-6 at after 20 overs. Mayer ended up with 3-27.

A big partnership for North Harrow saw a score of over 200 beckoning, but an end off innings comeback came as another 3 quick wickets came at the end with Turhim enticing a batsman out of his crease and Monk completed the stumping. The last two wickets which fell were run outs.

Monk capped off a fine display behind the stumps with one of the these run outs as he dived down leg side to stop a ball and while on the floor flung the ball and hit the stumps, when the batsmen went for a quick single. In the end a target of 179 to win was set.

After tea, Harvey Samuels and Phil Mayer put on 31 for the first wicket. This was ended by Mayer going for one too many hits down to long on. Debutant Jason Mann dominated the bowling in a very good knock of 36. Wickets began to fall at regular intervals with the middle order making starts but unable to follow it up. W

hen Adam Goldman came to the crease, it seemed that the B&E boys was going to fall short, but Goldman started hitting out, and a win looked possible.

With the target in sight with two overs to go, Adam was bowled and for a well-made 26. This left bowling heroes M. Mayer and G. Mendel in the middle at the end, and Mitchell hit the winning runs in the last over and ended up with 16 not out.

North Harrow 178-9 (35 overs)
Mitchell Mayer 3-27
Gideon Mendel 3-39

BECC II 182-8 (34.3 overs)
Jason Mann 36
Adam Goldman 26
