OLIM LEAGUE
ATHLETICO JERUSALEM 1 ASHDOD 6
Ashdod ran out comfortable winners in their latest match in the Olim League, htting Athletico Jerusalem for six.
Once again Ashdod arrived in the holy city of Jerusalem to play on the leagues smallest pitch with the firm intention to come back home this time with three points.
With Ashdod lining up in their new kit of the French colours of blue shirt, white shorts and red socks, the game started with a good rhythm and Athletico were in control of the early stages, pressuring the visiting Ashdod.
Athletico came close early on, but were denied by the woodwork. Ashdod gradually worked their way into the game and took the lead 1-0 just before the half time whistle.
Ashdod started the second half as they ended the first and scored two more goals to make it 3-0. Athletico began to fight back desperately to get a goal and pull their way back into the game and they were rewarded when a deflection of an Ashdod defender made it 3-1.
But as is so often the case with this Athletico team they lose their heads in the second half and Ashdod were able to score and another three goals on counter attacks to make it 6-1.
Ashdod manager David Ahayon said: "We would like to wish to this new Athletico team good luck for the rest of the league games. They have young and nice players, but of course it is not easy the first year. No doubt that they will become a more competitive team in the future."
Athletico co-manager David Bernstein commented: "The way that we are losing these games is completely unacceptable. How many more times are we going to concede five second half goals?"
