Gal Gadot wants to create her own female spy movie franchise on the same level as James Bond.

The Israeli actor and Wonder Woman star said the release of Heart of Stone on Netflix this Friday would kick off that journey.

Heart of Stone tells the story of an intelligence agent, played by Gadot, who must prevent an artificial intelligence system named 'The Heart' from falling into the hands of terrorists.

The film also stars Alia Bhatt, Sophie Okonedo, Jamie Dornan,Matthias Schweighofer, Jing Lusi, Paul Ready, Jon Kortajarena and Archie Madekwe.

She told the Straits Times the franchise could also be on par with Mission Impossible and Jason Bourne films, adding: “They are brilliant films that have such a huge legacy. I am just a simple woman who loves this genre and loves these movies.

“After the success of Wonder Woman, when I realised there was truly an audience – of men and women – for female-led action films, that gave me the confidence to go and make this movie."

Gadot also admitted that playing the role of Rachel Stone in Heart of Stone pushed her to her limits.

She said: “I got so many bruises. Every time I film these types of movies, I always think: ‘Okay, that was the most I’m ever going to be able to do – it can’t get any crazier than that.’

“And then comes the next movie, and the bar just keeps on going up and up. Coming into this, I knew we were going to have huge set pieces, but we had action up in the sky, on the snowy mountain, on the beach, on the street – every type of exterior.

“It’s very physical and it takes months of training prior to filming. But we’re very lucky. We have such incredible stunt teams making sure everything we did looks good and keeping us safe at the same time.”

In a separate video posted online, she then confirmed a third Wonder Woman movie could be in the works in future.

Gadot indicated that she was in talks to develop the third instalment with DC Studios bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran.

In a video on Twitter, she said: “I love portraying Wonder Woman, it’s so close and dear to my heart.

“What I heard from James and from Peter was that we were going to develop a Wonder Woman 3 together.”
