Pre Shabbat Rituals

December 05, 2008 12:31

Getting the kids to school (they come home early as it is Shabbat but it's only 5 minutes' walk here), reading the JC, preparing Leyning, and writing our weekly sheet, as well as phoning up everyone who has a birthday this week. These are some of my Shabbat rituals. It's quite cold in the house this morning, and I was up late last night trying to log on to the JC website to see my article (yeah I know, horribly narcissistic) but of course my server seems to have caught the emails letting me log on and I can't get in...
The question is, what do I talk about this week? What to I write for the Congregants of Reading Hebrew Congregation and what do I save for the sermon. Last week I spoke about Chabad, knowing that the Shliyach and all the Jews in Chabad Bombay had been killed. I also spoke about the temptation to react in anger and not in a Jewish way to the terrible murders. Just looking at the pictures of the family this week was more than I could bear. And we're not supposed to think about sad things on Shabbat.
Well, I suppose I'll find something. I have to write something relevant, and not dwell on tragedy. But we're all stunned by this cowardly and idolatrous act. This was not the act of believers.
I'd better get it all done before the kids get home...
Shabbat Shalom
