Flattery of the fools

June 04, 2015 13:06

Benjamin Netanyahu is of course entirely right that it is a grotesque form of hypocrisy for the National Union of Students to vote to boycott Israel but to reject condemning ISIS. The hard-core student activists behind the vote are clearly so devoid of basic intelligence that they cannot even see the difference between Israel and ISIS. But so what? The vote and those responsible are so tiresomely trivial that they should barely even concern their fellow students, let alone anyone else. The NUS is about as relevant to British public life as a gathering of Teletubbies. For the Prime Minister of Israel to respond to its vote dignifies it with an entirely unmerited importance. For the record, BDS in the UK is not so much a lost cause as one that is championed only by the ignorant, the foolish or the malevolent. Trade between Britain and Israel continues to soar to record-breaking levels. The idiotic antics of a few students should be treated with the insignificance they deserve.
