The latest honours list has been met with much ridicule. But at least one honour is remarkable. The elevation of Stuart Polak to the peerage is, quite explicitly, for his tenure as director of Conservative Friends of Israel. Israel may have its enemies — see above — but it says something rather wonderful about our politics that one of the greatest honours this country can bestow — a place in the legislature — is given to someone simply for being one of Israel’s leading friends.
