Lady Gaga's bad taste

Lady Gaga’s meaty costume choice at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday has according to The Times (paywall or I’d link) upset members of the Hindu community.

It has also annoyed the animal rights organisation Peta, who described it as “offensive” to wear cuts out of a dead cow.

Let’s refresh. Gaga, who has in her short career worn a dress made of Kermit the frog and offed her boyfriend in the video for Paparazzi, is supposed to do these things.

Quite apart from bad taste (spoken as a vegetarian, I mean that quite literally), what’s all the fuss about? Pop stars are all about clashing with religion; remember Madonna and the Catholic Church with the Like a Prayer video. And Gaga hasn’t ever marketed herself as any kind of role-model.

Still, maybe it’s the choice of meat. Steak, strange as it might be when worn as a dress, is at least kosher.

I wonder whether JC readers would have been amused or horrified if Gaga had performed in a pair of custom-made pork pyjamas?
