Visitors to Jamaica who want to keep kosher can now enjoy a vegetarian version of the local speciality — jerk-spiced food — at the newly opened Kosher Hot Spot.

Chabad of Jamaica launched the cosy eatery, which seats 16, earlier this month.  According to Rabbi Yaakov Raskin, of Chabad of Jamaica, “This is the moment Montego Bay — and really, Jamaica — has been waiting for.”

On the (parev) menu will be Israeli and Jamaican falafel — in a pita sandwich or salad; french fries (with various spice options) and tehina. Rabbi Raskin explains that Jamaican falafel is made with jerk seasoning, which is packed with all spice and hot chillies.

The restaurant, which Rabbi Raskin says will also be a one stop for everything Jewish — from synagogue services, to Judaica (including tefillin and mezuzot) and “all types of Jewish Jamaican souvenirs”.

For those in a hurry, the Hot Spot offers kosher take away.

Chabad Jamaica also offer a wider menu for a kosher delivery service which can be ordered from a number of Jamaica’s resorts. Visit www.jewishjamaica.com/kosher for more information.
