Outdoor activities for Scottish Jewish students

articlemain

An outdoor scouting centre hosted students from across Scotland and north east England for the annual Northern Region weekend.

After traditional Shabbat services and meals, more than a dozen students, including a number from the United States and Canada who are studying in Britain, took part in a communal campfire and singsong at Lapwing Lodge near Glasgow.

Representatives from the Union of Jewish Students and Mitzvah Day UK spoke about the opportunity for assisting with social action programmes.

Regional president Hayden Krasner said: “This weekend demonstrates the current strength of the Jewish student community at northern universities, and hopefully even more students will now get involved with their J-Soc.”

Maurice Griffin, a first year student at Glasgow University, said: “It was really fun and hopefully more events like this can be run for Scottish students.”

Following the success of the weekend it is hoped a regional Chanucah party will follow in December.
