Children are taught to be members of a 'global society'

articlemain

Wohl Ilford Jewish Primary School has achieved the foundation level of the British Council’s International School Award for its work in fostering international educational links.

The United Synagogue school took part in an online exchange with a school in Piacenza, Italy for a year-two project on winter birds.

Among other things, children swapped information on birds they spotted in their gardens.

Andrea Elliker, WIJPS headteacher, said "We are delighted to have received this award in recognition of the work we do at WIJPS to educate our pupils about international cultures and instill the tolerance and understanding needed to be a member of our global society."

The award is available internationally in India, Pakistan, Egypt and Lebanon among other places and has been given to 5,500 schools since its inception in 1999.

WIJPS  now has its sights on reaching the intermediate level.
