Over 250 people attended Charity Central, the one stop shop for jobs in the third sector in the community at the Wohl Enterprise Hub, hosted by Work Avenue, the employment specialists. Twenty-nine of the community’s largest and most high-profile charities, including Camp Simcha, CST, Jewish Care, JW3, Norwood, UJIA and World Jewish Relief, took a stall to engage, inspire and inform job-seeking delegates on the day.
Charity Central was the brainchild of Work Avenue, responding to client feedback that jobs in the community were much in demand but hard to reach. The first of its kind, Charity Central provided the exhibiting charities with a complimentary platform to showcase their paid and unpaid opportunities and engage with prospective employees. It was aimed at those who work or wish to work in the charitable/not for profit sector, giving them an opportunity to see first-hand the diversity of community opportunity, all in one room. Emma May, Director of Operations and Employment , stated: “As an organisation which works so hard to help people into employment, it has been great to see so many new relationships and networks being forged. Work Avenue is here to help people into jobs and to support them as they grow their businesses. We hope we helped a few people with that today.” Daniel Carmel-Brown, CEO of Jewish Care, addressed and inspired the audience about his personal employment journey in the Jewish charitable world from Redbridge Youth Club to CEO of the UK’s largest Jewish charity.
Throughout the event, one-to-one careers and fundraising clinics were busy, and the atmosphere in the room was electric, provoking positive conversations and much networking. Bernice, a participant who is looking to get back into the workplace, explained “Charity Central has been extremely helpful and energising. It has really inspired me into taking the necessary steps into looking for my next job”.
Raymond Simonson, CEO of JW3 said: “It was great to be a part of the really impressive Work Avenue Charity Central recruitment fair today, which exceeded my expectation. We are always looking for talented and enthusiastic job applicants to join the team at JW3, and we were enthused and inspired by many people we met today. It’s really encouraging to see so many people looking to move professionally into the Jewish communal sector, and it bodes well for the future”
