Ajex to march again after pandemic-related hiatus

Servicemen and women's organisation says annual parade to the Cenotaph will resume this year

Ajex members will be back on the march in November, following the announcement that the Jewish servicemen and women’s organisation will be resuming its annual parade and remembrance ceremony at the Cenotaph.

Participation will be boosted by the first-time involvement of the JFS Combined Cadet Force and community members are being encouraged to attend to show solidarity with the marchers.

The organisation also hopes that synagogues around the country will stage an Ajex Shabbat on November 20, the day before the parade.

National chairman Mike Bluestone said: “It is our duty to remember the sacrifice that Jewish men and women made for this country. This year will be especially meaningful given the difficulties of Covid over the past 18 months — and as it marks the 100th year since the first wreath was laid at the Cenotaph by Jewish servicemen. We look forward to seeing as many of the community as possible join us to participate and support.”

Ajex is also working with schools, arranging Q&As with Jewish veterans. For a second year, primary pupils will take part in a “Remember in Red” day.
