Cancer patient Johnny Maurer and his “running guru” Damian Schogger completed a five-kilometre run on Sunday to raise nearly £5,000 for Chai Cancer Care.

Mr Maurer, from Borehamwood, said he felt strong enough to undertake the challenge after “completing my sixth chemo session, and hopefully my last before my operation. I normally only run to my car — and to shul, of course.”

He had wanted “to raise money for this amazing charity with its wonderful volunteers who help cancer patients like myself and, more importantly, our families. No questions asked, just support and more support.”
