Thirty people enjoyed a walking tour of Bangor’s Jewish history to mark the European Day of Jewish Culture 2015.
Led by Professor Nathan Abrams of Bangor University and Gareth Roberts of Menter Fachwen, participants learned about Bangor’s Jewish history from the medieval period to the present, taking in such luminaries as the Wartski’s, owners of the famous jewellers in London’s Bond Street.
Walkers ranged from 11 months to over 100, including one woman who remembered working for the Wartski family. Participants came from as far afield as Israel.
Professor Abrams said afterwards: “We were delighted with the turnout for this walk. The theme of 2015 is ‘Bridges’ and this walk built bridges between Bangor’s Welsh and Jewish histories. Gareth and I hope to build on this success in the future.”
