Patrick Moriarty took charge of JCoSS in 2012, while Spencer Lewis moved to Yavneh College in 2013 after six years as head at Kantor King Solomon. Debbie Lipkin was parachuted into JFS as executive headteacher earlier this year. Hasmonean High School executive head Andrew McClusky and King Solomon head Matthew Slater both started last year.

But Rabbi David Meyer, executive director of Partnerships for Jewish Schools, explained the situation was not unusually fluid. It was normal, he said, for a head to move after around five years.

Northern heads have maintained a longer run in the same job: Brian Levy is in his 12th year as acting head of King David High School Manchester, while Brigid Smith has been headteacher of King David High, Liverpool since early 2005.
