Zig Zag 0-3 Woodford Wanderers

A virtuoso performance from Maccabiah starlet Mitch Hahn helped JC MSFL Division Three title hopefuls Woodford Wanderers past Zig Zag.

Played in terrible conditions, which included a second half hailstorm that forced referee Nigel Burns to half proceedings temporarily, the match featured some moments of real class from Hahn who rarely gave the ball away and capped off a memorable display with a thunderous goal.

Zig Zag, who started with a 4-3-1-1-1 that their players did not seem to understand, switched to a more conventional 4-4-2 for the second period. Debutant Josh Toff was dangerous on the right after coming on at the break.

Their best chance was a good move down the right which resulted in a Woodford defender just glancing the ball
inches wide of his own net 10 minutes into the second half.

Zig Zag manager Neil Cohen was both pleased with his side’s effort and complimentary to the opposition: “We gave it everything in difficult conditions. But we lost to the better side. They are excellent for this level.”

Woodford should have been out of sight by half time after a first half that saw Zig Zag struggle to cope with their movement. Jerome Marks and Hahn both missed good chances from headers before a poor clearance by Richard Benson left centre-back Adam Poole with a chance to turn and shoot from eight yards, which he did.

The second arrived five minutes before the interval when left-winger Jamie Golding beat the Zig Zag offside trap and slid the ball across to Marks who tapped home.

Hahn finished the job on 65 minutes, running 20 yards before firing past Zig Zag keeper Jon Tiller.

“We did everything required of us,” said Woodford player-manager Alex Aviram. “If we keep up this sort of form it should be a successful season for us.”
