We should've filled our boots, says Delmonte

Stuart Delmonte believes his Manchester Maccabi side should have racked up double figures during Sunday’s cup clash with Farnworth Panthers.

Jonny Quinn’s brace was enough to take an injury-ravaged Maccabi through to the third round of the Fred Davies Challenge Cup after coming out on top against lower league opposition.

Adam Green’s through ball allowed Quinn to fire home a 25th minute opener and the Maccabi star wrapped up the win eight minutes from time with a neat finish.

Farnworth pulled a goal back in injury-time but it was too little too late as Delmonte’s men marched on.

“We should have scored about 10 against them,” said the Maccabi boss.

“We played well and had lots of chances against a team who are a couple of divisions below us.

“It was a much better game than last week against Ring O’Bells and I was happy with the way the boys bounced back.”

Despite the win, Delmonte is still worried about the club's injury crisis with six players missing the game with Farnworth with various ailments.

“It’s déjà vu because this is what happened last season,” he added.

“We’ve got players out with fractured toes, torn hamstrings, neck problems, ankle injuries and pulled groins.

“I’ve no idea how they get these injuries and with a few of the boys going off to University has left us a bit thin.

“Hopefully we’ll have a few of the boys back in the next three or four weeks.”

Maccabi return to league action on Sunday when they entertain March Hare, who enjoyed a 6-1 win over Hyde United in the opening round of the cup.

“March Hare are a very good side,” added Delmonte.

“It’s going to be another very tough game.”
