Watford 'Friendly' becomes nasty brawl

articlemain

A Watford Friendly League match between Whetstone Sabres and London Maccabi Lions Under 18s was abandoned early in the second half due to a mass brawl.

Although details from the referee's report have yet to come through, we understand that a tempestuous affair reached boiling point late in the first half when a Lions player punched an opponent, leaving him needing hospital treatment. Things got out of hand quickly with parents and spectators running on to the pitch.

LML Junior Committee member Nicky Bloom said: "As an FA chartered club, we treat any kind of disciplinary breaches with great seriousness and we will deal with it. Under the circumstances we've asked the player to stay away from the club."
