Tel Aviv reach final four

articlemain

Maccabi Tel Aviv have reached the final four of the Euroleague tournament in Barcelona.

A 99-77 win over Spanish champions Caja Laboral at the Nokia Arena saw Maccabi take an unassailable 3-1 lead in the five-game quarter-final series.

The Israelis will meet either Real Madrid or Valencia in the semi-final on May 6 but should they progress, they may not show for the final, which falls on the eve of Holocaust Memorial Day on May 8.

Maccabi chairman Shimon Mizrahi has asked the Euroleague secretariat to move the game from Sunday evening to late afternoon to accommodate his team but has so far not received a positive response.

Maccabi have been European champions five times and last won the Euroleague in 2005. Maccabi have previously played a European final on Memorial Day when they were beaten by Barcelona in 1991. But the club have made it clear they will not appear in this year's final against Siena or Panathinaikos unless the match is brought forward.
