Tammam not enough for Manchester Maccabi

Ray Tammam's brave innings failed to prevent Manchester Maccabi from falling to defeat against Stretford Friends in the Greater Manchester Amateur League.

During a rain-affected game, Tammam took three wickets and hit a classy 34 but Maccabi still slumped to a 69-run loss against an in-form Stretford.

In a reduced overs contest, nine-man Maccabi restricted their hosts to 163 all-out following some impressive bowling from Stuart Simpson, Josh Danski and Mark Levington.

Maccabi earned maximum bowling points following an outstanding performance in the field with wicket-keeper Stuart Stevens and the ever-alert Mark Smaje both taking smart catches.

But the visitors failed to repeat their heroics with the bat and only Tammam appeared to get to grips with the Stretford bowling attack.

Simpson, who made 12, was the top scorer until Tammam managed to drag his side to a respectable 74-7.

Meanwhile, Salford skipper Josh Henry was left hugely encouraged by his side's showing during the 107-run defeat by Ashton All Stars.

Despite failing to get near the winning target of 187, Henry says he's pleased with his men's progress.

"It was more promising than usual," he said. "We came up a much better side but if we keep on improving like we have done then we may see some more positive results in the future.

Daniel Paul was the star of the show for Salford, taking three wickets for 40 runs in his spell.
