YOUR WEEKEND PREVIEW BEGINS HERE:

LONDON FA SUNDAY CHALLENGE CUP

NORTH LONDON RAIDERS A vs ANORTHOSIS
Daniel Shafron is preparing for his first match in the LFA Sunday Challenge Cup as defending MGBSFL champions Raiders A host opponents from the KOPA Cypriot Football League.

Having lost their first two league games, NLR are on a roll having won three on the spin – two in the league and one in the cup – but this could be arguably Shafron’s toughest test yet.

The goals were shared around in last week’s 9-0 demolition of second division L’Equipe last weekend. Dave Cohen, David Dinkin and Matt Stock fired doubles, while Liron Mannie, Liam Stein and Ben Ellis completed the rout.

Having lost in the first round of the competition last season, it’s clear NLR are ready for the challenge. Shafron told JC Sport: “We don’t know much about our opponents other than the league they play in and the fact that like us, they got knocked out in the first round last year.

"Their league table suggests they haven’t had a good start to their season, however their standard is an unknown to us and it would be naive to think that their results and league position mean anything, especially in a cup.

"We've only ever got to the second round of this competition once, however this season, the boys are pumped for the challenge and like all games no matter who the opponent, we will play to our strengths and approach only with a winning mentality."

FC TEAM A vs WOODFORD WANDERERS
Neither FC Team A or Woodford have registered a win between them in six league matches, so a cagey affair is on the cards between two teams hell-bent on avoiding a relegation dog-fight.

With players of the calibre of Mike Pearson, Richard Salmon, Ben Binder and Lorian Madanes, FC Team will never have a problem scoring goals, but it’s at the other end that they’ve really struggled, with an unprecedented 20 goals flying past their keeper in just three games.

FC Team defences of old have prided themselves or resilience and organisation and the Woodford attack must be rubbing their hands.

That said, the Wanderers go into the game on the back of a 2-1 defeat against first division Redbridge in the cup.

Things just haven’t gone their way, but manager Daryl Kay is confident they will turn the corner.

He told JC Sport: “After last week’s loss to Redbridge we had some clear-the-air talks as soon as we came off the pitch and I believe we’re stronger for it.

“Our start to the season has been okay, though we’d have liked to have beaten Brady, and there’s no embarrassment in losing to Raiders.

“We gave our all against Lions and were desperately unfortunate in the end so I’m hoping, and am confident, the boys can turn it around on Sunday against FC Team.

“We played FC Team in pre-season with a makeshift team and it wasn’t pretty, so hopefully this time it will no doubt be a very different match.

FC Team owe their manager a big performance. It could come on Sunday but don’t be surprised if Woodford nick it.

JC team news: Woodford “were almost bare bones again this week but we welcome back James Ryan, David Green from an injury, and Ell Gold who was sorely missed out-field against Redbridge will take his place at right-back again, with Ben Rosenthal back from holiday and between the sticks. We’ve also managed to re-sign another Woodford ‘legend’ and league winner Darren Ezekiel – he has been excused from parental duties for the morning”.

OAKWOOD A vs BRADY MACCABI
Bouncebackability is the name of the game for an Oakwood team smarting from an early Anekstein Cup exit.

Oakwood clearly had their sights set on another trip to the Harry Abrahams Stadium but they were given a rude awakening by Camden Park and saw their cup hopes go up in smoke.

Yes they are hurting, but as joint-manager Dan Kristall told me last week, they can now give the league full focus and I expect them to make their intentions clear from the very first whistle on Sunday.

Joint-manager Kristall told JC Sport: “We are looking to bounce back in the league as we start four games back-to-back. This begins with a very tough test against one of the league’s form sides.

"Brady have been scoring goals for fun and they are my tip to be the surprise package this season. I think they will give most sides in the league a game on their day.

“As mentioned on several occasions, our problems are creating and taking our chances. That really cost us last week but we believe this week’s squad has more pace and creativity in it.

“With the addition of Cantor who is set to return up front, we have a bit more quality and firepower up there.

“We will not be underestimating Sunday’s opposition and after last week’s cup exit, this is a really big game for us and a chance to get our season back on track.”

Brady have enjoyed a fabulous start, but they will come up against a wounded Oakwood team who won’t be prepared to come away second best.

I expect the hosts to double up on the ever dangerous Reiss Mogilner who is attracting interest from ‘the big three’. The scouts have been circling as they wanted to see how he would fare in his first season in the top-flight. As things stand he’s passed the test with flying colours but Oakwood away is a totally different proposition to anything they have experienced.

JC team news: Oaks captain Adam Levine looks set for another lengthy spell on the sidelines. Alex Lee is an injury doubt and Dan Rose and Jonny Quinn are away. Sam Cantor returns to the squad and Danny Davidson is set to make his Oakwood debut following his summer move from Leeds Maccabi.

DC Prediction: Oakwood 2 Brady 1

REDBRIDGE JEWISH CARE A vs CAMDEN PARK
Camden Park have their tails up following an excellent cup win over Oakwood. And manager Max Saunders has called on his players to do exactly the same ahead of the trip to title hopefuls Redbridge Jewish Care who have won three out of three.

JC Player of the Week David Khalastchi produced arguably his best performance in an Oakwood shirt, with brother Mike, goalkeeper Steve Murad and Jake Saunders not too far behind.

With matches against SPEC FC, Hendon United and FC Team to follow, this is a crucial part of the season for Camden and boss Max Saunders will once again set his team up to be hard to beat and try to snatch something on the counter.

Redbridge have been word perfect thus far. They progressed in the Anekstein Cup without playing last Sunday and averaging three goals a game, they are confident home advantage will once again play a part as they go in search of their fourth league success.

Striker Daniel Garfinkle has scored in his last two games, and with Sam Sollosi, Dean Nyman and Russell Goldstein for company they will never struggle to create chances.

For me, Sunday will be a battle of the Camden defence against the Redbridge attack. Jacobs has his team exactly where he wants them and if they remain patient, I can see them claiming maximum points.

HENDON UNITED SPORTS CLUB A vs MACCABI LONDON LIONS A
Hendon host Lions in a rearrange fixture after seeing their County Cup match delayed for seven more days.

Like Lions, they go into what is now a huge game in high spirits after winning in the cup - their fans expected more than three goals against second division Real Hendon but it just goes to show that there are no easy games in Jewish football.

Having won five on the spin, Garbacz is hopeful the absence of several key players won't hurt them on Sunday. He told JC Sport: "All credit to the league and to Lions and to us to be honest, for managing to re-arrange this match in such notice after our County cup opponents had to postpone until next week.

"We were happy to get the game on despite being without some pretty key players if for no other reason than to maintain momentum, and once again our strength in depth this year will be severely tested by a much-improved Lions team who clearly are a lot stronger this year having merged with Harmen.

"The task of maintaining our 100 per cent start to the season will be a hard one but even with the players away we should still go into this game full of confidence and providing we play to our capabilities we should be able to grab the points.

"It will be a close one no doubt and I’m sure it will be highly competitive as well – we will be looking to the likes of Zac Lewis to continue his great early season form which has seen him score in every game so far but above all we will need to be disciplined and keep it tight at the back and make sure we give Arthur good protection in goal in Russell's absence. It's sure to be a tough game though – but one we’re looking forward to."

The Lions ran riot in the cup last week, but I have a feeling they could draft in James Gershfield and some of their other big guns for this one.

Their players will be keen to show the rest of the league that the Redbridge result was a blip and they are capable of mixing it with the big guns. After all, they harbour strong title aspirations and we will see that in their starting XI.

But the million dollar question is, will we see it in the full-time scoreline as well?

JC team news: Hendon are missing Russell Corin, Dovi Fehler, Rafi Kon, Ari Nevies and Alex Rosenthal who are all are away or unavailable. Arthur Caplin will play in goal.

FINCHLEY CITY FC vs MACCABI LONDON LIONS B
Finchley City lie just three points off top spot and they are relishing the visit of league leaders Lions B.

Daniel Polak is one of a trio of players missing for Joel Holder’s troops who are fully focused on registering their third league win.

Ahead of the Lions game, Holder told JC Sport: “We are expecting one of the biggest tests of the season against Lions B on Sunday.

“However, I think this game has come at the right time for us. We are playing some great football and confidence is high all around the camp.”

Oli Sade earned a place in JC Team of the Week following his heroics in the cup. He was at his predatory best in a emphatic victory, with the influential Josh Aziz also on the scoresheet.

Holder added: “Last week’s victory against Faithfold was definitely our most complete performance of the season. It’s important for us now to build on that.

“Lions B will be confident, but the onus will be on us to impose our game onto them. I believe this is going to be an extremely close contest with the game being decided by one of the team’s special players."

The Lions were in ominous form in the cup last week, with hot-shot Josh Bloom the chief tormentor of Catford in a 5-1 mauling.

But manager Sam Marchant knows things will be much tougher against ambitious opponents. He told JC Sport: “This Sunday will be no easy task and we will be fully prepared for it.

“Finchley City are much of an unknown entity however their strong start to the season has taught us quite a bit about them.

“Having beaten a tough Faithfold side in the cup last week, we know City are entering the game on top form, and at their home ground, I’m sure they will be motivated. It will certainly be a good spectacle for the neutral.

“As always, we believe that on our day we can beat any team and this Sunday we are hoping for no difference in that.

“We didn’t train midweek due to Yom Kippur, so the boys are raring to get out and play football after a week without kicking a ball.

“We hope that the three points will be coming back with us to the Lane as we head into an important four or five weeks which will teach us a lot about how the league might pan out over the season.”

It’s a close call for Sunday in what promises to be a top-quality affair. A draw would be a rather predictable prediction so I’m going to put my neck on the line and go for a narrow Lions win.

JC team News: Daniel Polak, Yoni Benari and Daniel Sinclair miss out for Finchley.

NORTH LONDON RAIDERS B vs FAITHFOLD A
With their hopes of Anekstein Cup glory over for another season, it’s back to the bread and butter of the MGBSFL for both Raiders B and Faithfold A.

Raiders allowed a two-goal advantage to slip from their grasp as they were edged out in a five-goal thriller against Scrabble.

Joint-manager Jonathan Adelman told me Nicky Woolf didn’t deserve to be on the losing team after scoring two crackers, but his team lost focus and concentration in the second half and will have spent Yom Kippur reflecting on a missed opportunity. That said, he was delighted when he found out that both he and Zack Gothelf had won the Division One managers of the month award.

Ahead of the Faithfold match, Adelman told JC Sport: “After two defeats we'll look to get back to winning ways.

"We have a few of the boys who were missing last week back so we are targeting a positive result."

Faithfold will be out to avenge last month’s 7-3 battering at the hands of L’Orange. Yes they may have had some key personnel missing, but managers John Nitka and Rob Shooman demand better.

On the day they had no answer to the movement of Jake Gilbert or the creativity of Alex Goodman but I can see them putting in a no-nonsense performance in a bid to get back on track.

I can see Faithfold huffing and puffing but NLR doing just enough to take maximum points.

JC team news: NLR skipper Anthony Goodmaker is back as are Danny Bloom and Simon Buchler, but Alex Goodman misses out.

BRIXTON OLD BOYS vs SCRABBLE FC
Ray Abrahams has his Scrabble team exactly where he wants them and I can’t see complacency being an issue against a Brixton team on a losing streak.

The have bounced back superbly since their opening day defeat against Raiders B, exacting revenge in the cup last weekend.

Josh Bharier has become a firm favourite with the fans, and he showed an ice-cool head to convert the decisive penalty in the cup that set up a meeting with Faithfold B.

I can see Scrabble enjoying the physical exchanges with Brixton - an aspect that has somewhat been removed from the MGBSFL game on 3G.

With two big games coming up against Lions' team in the next couple of weeks, this is the start of an important part of Scrabble's season, and manager Ray Abrahams will set his team up to score goals.

Boss Ray Abrahams told JC Sport: "We go into this game on the back of three straight wins and it's taken a while for our new boys to settle, especially with our injury situation which has meant we've been unable to see everyone in games together.

"This week we are looking to push into the top three or four with another win. We won't underestimate Brixton though as these are potential 'banana skin' games that can catch you out so we will be professional and disciplined in our approach to the game."

Brixton have lost their first three games of the season and when you consider they conceded six times against a second division team last week, the signs look ominous once more.

This promises to be an enthralling contest in the battle of football cultures, but I can only see one winner.

JC team news: Scrabble will be without Zak McLeod and Brandon Sassoon (injured). They have added youth to the squad in recent weeks and both Zac Summerfield, nephew of former Scrabble player Jonny Summerfield, who made his debut last week, and Sam Stead (yet to play this season) will play.

Venue - Clowes, Ref – Neal Cohen, KO – 10am

HENDON UNITED SPORTS CLUB B vs ATHLETIC BILBAUM
Hendon B were firmly put in their place by Los Blancos last weekend, but I’m expecting a big reaction on Sunday when Bilbaum are the visitors.

Three defeats in four is not the start Hendon managers Jono Nesbitt and James Neidle had expected but they will see this game as the perfect opportunity to put things right - at both ends of the pitch.

Nesbitt told JC Sport: "We again have a full squad and are boosted by the return of the Saul Cohen. We are expecting big things on his first start alongside Adam Ellis, if they can get a partnership going they could be a deadly duo.

"We're looking to put last week's result in the cup behind us and continue to push on from our win in our last league game. We feel this is a game we should be winning but not if the boys come with same attitude and work ethic as they did against Blancos.

"Hopefully Yom Kippur has given them all some good reflection time, and we will be looking for a very positive response."

The Baums are another team in need of a win. They have lost their first four league games and were unable to put out a team in the cup last week.

Their big problem this season is going to be picking up points away from home. They have lost both their games on the road so far, and have not looked threatening at all.

I think they are in for another tough afternoon at Chase Lodge too.

LOS BLANCOS vs REDBRIDGE JEWISH CARE B
Redbridge B are riding on the crest of a wave after sending Premier Division Woodford tumbling out of the League Cup last week.

Adam Goldman and Craig Sandford were their goal-scoring heroes, while captain marvel Richie Caplin produced a barn-storming performance.

Ahead of the trip to north-west London, RJC boss Sam Rank told JC Sport: "This Sunday will be a good test for the boys.

"We have had some good games against Los Bloncos in the last few seasons. It brilliant to see they moved from West Hendon Playing Fields to Hertswood Centre, so the game can be played on a good surface.

“The boys are in very good form at the moment, and I hope we can continue our run with bringing home the three points to Essex."

Blancos gave boss Nick Grosse the result and performance he so craved in the cup last week – hitting Hendon for six. Adam Hersh maintained his excellent goal-scoring run, while Joel Barnett was rock steady at the back.

Now it's about finding consistency - in terms of results and performances. Redbridge will throw everything at them and leave nothing on the pitch. It's important they come up with all the answers.

I just think with the way they are playing the east Londoners will edge it.

JC team news: RJC have “a few out this week, but due to the depth we have strong replacements in”.

BOCA JEWNIORS vs REDBRIDGE JEWISH CARE C
Redbridge C enjoyed their big day at Rowley Lane last Sunday, despite the result.

Josh Hambling’s boys will be better off for their run-out against a Premier Division team, with young goalkeeper Nathan Mehlman and Matt Zartz enjoying a morning to remember.

Oli Hambling was their scorer in a 5-1 defeat and he will be looking to fill his boots against a Boca team who have lost both their matches in league and cup.

Hambling senior is paid the big bucks to make the big decisions and he has to make a huge one ahead of the trip to Boca. "I've a strong squad available this week with only a couple of absentees but areas that can be covered comfortably, with quality," said Hambling.

"After last week’s flattering scoreline against the Lions, I've been sat in a ice bath all week planning for Sunday's game with Boca.

"Personally I'm not sure what they're about yet but one things for certain, we will be going there fully expecting three points and to score some goals.

“After our extreme defensive effort last Sunday, my players have been banging on at me all week to reverse that tactic to showcase some of their talents so all-out attack would be the popular choice of football on Sunday.

“We hope to give a season debut to Dan Lassman, however he's blackmailing me to start him up top, but this means I'll have to let down my brother and risk an ear bashing from my mum ... it's not a decision I'm looking forward to making!”

The Boca boys have had a clear fortnight to concentrate on this game. They have played well in patches this season but only a perfect 90-minute performance will be enough to stop a confident RJC on Sunday.

It wouldn’t surprise me if Boca sent their scouting team to Rowley Lane last week, but I think Redbridge will hold all the aces on Sunday.

FAITHFOLD C vs CATFORD & BROMLEY MACCABI
Jeff Gotch is promising changes to the starting XI that turned out at Rowley Lane in the cup last weekend.

He used the match to give some of his squad players some game-time but having read plenty about Faithfold’s biggest threat in the JC and thejc.com, he will leave nothing to chance. And it wouldn’t surprise me if he steps up to man-marking duties on Richard Fogelman.

Speaking exclusively to JC Sport this week, Gotch said: “So Danny after last week humbling by a good Lions side we go back to league action looking to make it five in five

"The cups really are just bonus games for us this year as we look to gain promotion in style.

"We're back to full strength this week and it’s another selection headache for me – we are a close group and it’s been surprising how fast we have all come together.

"People keep saying they’re losing to us because we’ve played together for a long time – this is our first year together as a squad so their excuses are laughable.

"Any way, we will go into the game full of confidence and won’t let Faithfold settle at all as we will try and hit them early.

"Faithfold have had an indifferent start but as always I don’t care who they have. It’s all about who we have and if we turn up on our game no-one in this division will beat us."

Faithfold leading goal-scorer Richard Fogelman has been ruled out with a groin injury, sending fantasy football managers into a frenzy.

He registered his fourth hat-trick of the season last week, as the Superhoops put seven past Temple Fortune.

Faithfold’s Avi Garson told JC Sport: “Catford & Bromley have won four out of four and have only conceded two goals this season in the league so we know what to expect.

“But we are on a good run of form though and morale is high so we are hopeful we will give them a game.”

With no Fogelman involved, I expect the Cats to do the business.

JC team news: Faithfold will be missing a few key players, including Louis Taylor, Jon Posener and Raphael Meyers.

HERTSWOOD VALE vs NORTH LONDON RAIDERS C
Hertswood Vale go in search of their first win since joining the MGBSFL as North London Raiders C visit their Tempsford Green home.

Although they have yet to experience the sweet taste of success in their debut season, they remain in good spirits and I'm expecting a decent turnout on the sidelines.

There were encouraging signs in last week's cup defeat against FC Team and Jacob Emanuel sounded in upbeat mood when I caught up with him earlier this week.

"We've been eagerly anticipating this fixture all week," he told JC Sport, "with our entire squad up for breaking our duck and gaining our first win of the season.

"Despite a really disappointing result last week against FC Team, you can see our gradual improvement. We're a squad full of great individuals with class ability, we're just lacking the gel to link the team together at this stage.

"Unfortunately, as has haunted us for much of this season so far, last week's game on FC Team's 4G surface has hit us with a further two long-term injuries to Josh Gorb and Charlie Hollis. Despite the game being played on such a great surface, we've picked up two injuries that were unlikely to have occurred on a grass pitch.

"With the number of players hit affected by injury and unavailability rising to over 10 this week - with regular players such as Elio Elia unable to make the game due to his mother, Noga's, birthday - it's time for certain members of our squad to step up to the plate, trying out new positions to help our cause - led by club captain Josh Wood wishing to start this week's game in a more advance number 10 role - it remains to be seen whether this will come to fruition.

"We may be wounded but we will come out fighting on Sunday."

By Sunday, NLR would've had 14 days to dust themselves down from the Real Hendon defeat. L'Orange have scored and conceded in every game this season but that's the way they love to play their football.

Star defender Jake Yudelowitz has been hampered by injury since returning, so it's important they manage him carefully.

That makes this hard game to predict either way - so I am going for a draw.

L’EQUIPE vs MILL HILL DONS
Nick Stern is delighted with the timing of L’Equipe meeting with Mill Hill Dons – which comes seven days after their 9-0 mauling at the hands of Anekstein Cup holders Raiders A.

He went into the game with high hopes but could only have been impressed by the quality of the Premier Division champions. That’s the level his team is targeting.

As mentioned, I was impressed by Stern's summer dealings, and it looks like L'Equipe are set for another good season. Two clean sheets in their last two games tell you they are hard to break down, but the big tests will come when they take on their top six rivals.

The Dons have failed to score in their last two league outings and going into the game after a 5-1 cup defeat against Oakwood B, the first 20 minutes will be crucial for them in Woodside Park.

Boss Brandon Hamme this week stated the Dons have "the best fans in the world" and it's encouraging to hear that the away end will be jam-packed full as they go in search of their second league win.

Hamme told JC Sport: "It was a better team performance last week against the best team we have faced. I hope we will start to take back control of the midfield battle that we bossed a few weeks back when we faced FC Team B.

"We are improving as the weeks go on and the results should start to follow. We know L'Equipe will be a hard game, they have done very well so far this season and we will have to be at our best to get a result this weekend.

"I'm confident we can give them a good game though, the players we have back in our squad this week should give us a real boost."

The cup result apart, L'Equipe have made a solid start to the season, and they are going to be hard to stop on Sunday.

JC team news: Both Harry Moss and Zach Perez comes back into the MHD matchday squad after six weeks out injured. Sammy Hakimian faces a late fitness test. Whilst James Segal also returns the squad after five weeks. Yeshoua Benzadon and Adam Isaacs have joined MHD's ever-increasing injury list after both picked up injuries in last week's game.

TEMPLE FORTUNE vs FC TEAM B
Temple Fortune have been rocked by back-to-back defeats but manager Simon Linden is confident it will be a case of third time lucky when they take on FC Team B.

He knows they will not come up against a player with the finishing ability of Richard Fogelman every week and will urge his side to deliver their Sunday best.

Linden needs more time to work with his players and I am expecting an energetic performance against FC Team B who have lost all three league games.

Up until last week's much-needed cup win, Mike Myers's boys had conceded 14 goals in 270 minutes and I expect them to be on the back foot for long spells on Sunday.

Fortune have taken six points out of a possible nine at RBSC and will see this game as an opportunity to continue that improved run, with the in-form Zack Rich and Jorden Sharifia the biggest threats.

Venue – Roger Bannister, Ref – Harry Raffe, KO – 10am
