South slumps

South Manchester slumped to a 3 -0 home defeat which leaves them stranded mid table in the Accountants League Premier division.

Playing on a fantastic surface in beautiful conditions, they hardly strung a pass together for the whole game and did not register a single shot on target.

The first half was a sterile affair with both teams trying to win a physical battle with The Village edging the chances. South keeper Gary Brunen made a splendid point-blank save, whilst Mark Yaffe was the main source of attacking threat for South. Leon Huller had the only chance for South which he blazed over from 18 yards.

Manager Darryl Lee read the riot act at half time but it seemed to fall on deaf ears as the loss of possession in key areas continued.

After a series of four corners for their opponents, each of which was scrambled away, a defensive mix-up saw a back pass intercepted and Mooney scored for the Village.

Five minutes later a dubious penalty saw the lead doubled as Mooney scored again from the spot.

Parry and Peppi came on for Huller and Adcock but to no avail as a further defensive slip saw Jones make it 3-0 to kill the game off.

Having taken only two points from 12, South`s early season promise has slipped away and the next two games against teams in the bottom three will need to be won to avoid a relegation struggle. The ability to score goals will be the key issue in the weeks ahead .

Next week they take on PWC University Grounds Wythenshawe.
