Sosobad lucky to win cup derby, says Shafron

Dan Shafron admits Real Sosobad rode their luck as they reached the third round of the Cyril Anekstein Cup after beating first division rivals Redbridge Jewish Care B on penalties.

Richie Caplin and Yoni Fialka struck for RJC, with Scott Kay and John Lessem on target for Sosobad in normal time.

With no further goals in extra-time, it was Sosobad who held their nerve to progress on spot-kicks.

Sosobad converted all four efforts, with Scott Kay, Elliott Coulton, Sam McCarthy and Josh Jacobs netting. Goalkeeper Scott Shear saved RJC's second attempt while the four flew over the crossbar.

Sosobad boss Dan Shafron told JC Sport; "In truth, we were lucky to win today. Redbridge played well and dominated us for the majority of the game. We rode our luck and were far from our best.

"We really had to dig deep and the only thing I am happy about is the character the boys showed getting back in to the game when heads easily could have dropped.

"Redbridge will feel hard done by and I think they have the right to think that. They will want to get us back in the league next weekend and if we are to have any chance of getting three points, we will need to turn up fully prepared for a tougher game than no doubt many of my team thought we were going to have today.

RJC's Sam Sank told JC Sport: "This was another improved performance from the young Redbridge B team. The boys will feel hard done by, with not getting the job done in normal or extra-time. Next week we are playing Real Sosobad again, and are very hopeful of three points. With the performances improving we are looking forward to a successful season."
