Sharpe delighted with Wingate's new signings

Wingate & Finchley chairman Aron Sharpe has expressed delight after the club secured the services of two top, young Jewish stars.

The arrival of midfielder Scott Shulton was quickly followed striker James Gershfield from Potters Bar Town.

Sharpe said: "I’ve always maintained we’re a Jewish club, but it’s a case of finding the players who can compete at this level. I want to help Jewish boys fulfil their potential in football.

"Scott made his debut on Saturday and had a very good game. He was a long-term target and his football ability is unquestionable. There’s no doubt he can play at this level.

"Adam Lee has done a fantastic job with James. He deserves to be playing at this level and wants to see how far he can go. It's obviously been a stroll for him in Ryman League Division One. I hope it’s a doddle for him here and that we can be a stepping stone for him to go on and achieve bigger and better things."

Potters Bar manager Adam Lee is confident Gershfield will have no problems adjusting to the higher division.

"James has been fantastic for us," Lee said. “Between Christmas 2011 and the end of last season he stepped up his game and did really well.

"The Ryman Premier will be a good test for him, but he should be OK. He’s strong, quick and has a great eye for goal. He’s a great lad and as honest as they come."
