Saperstein claims third win

articlemain

Laura Saperstein maintained her unbeaten record with a points victory in her third professional fight at the York Hall in Bethnal Green.

The former lawyer, 36, was on the front foot throughout against debutant Kristine Shergold of Paignton. She always looked in control of a lacklustre bout, winning three of the four rounds last Friday.

Fighting under promoter Frank Maloney for the second time, the 5ft 5in Australian was frustrated by her opponents’ spoiling tactics.

“I felt I dominated the whole fight,” Saperstein said. “She came out more aggressively than I was expecting and I got a little bit of a shock in the first round. She certainly brought the fight to me and came to win so it wasn’t an early night, but there were never any doubts in my mind.”

Saperstein admitted that she is still learning and was not too dispirited not to win by a KO. “In some ways I think it’s better to get the rounds under your belt,” she said. “Overall, I was really pleased, I was more content to sit back and not counter punch rather then having to do all the work.””

After the fight, Saperstein signed an autograph for Maloney’s mum who is a big fan as is the promoter’s wife.

Her next fight is scheduled to take place in Portsmouth on June 13.
