Rampaging cubs give Lions pride of place in five-a-side

articlemain

London Maccabi Lions dominated the Maccabi (Southern) Primary League’s five-a-side competition in Hatfield.

The Rowley Lane club won four out of five age groups with the Under Nines pipped to the post in the final by Letchmore FC.

Lions C won the Under 11 event with seven straight wins to claim the Dick Urban Memorial Trophy.

Victory meant that the team featuring Johnny Hirschowitz, Dominic Feldman, Ethan Herman, Jack Martin, Ozzy Doron and Andy Gilbert secured a cup double, having already won the Martin Lane Under 11s Trophy at Wingate & Finchley in May.

Twenty teams, split into four groups, contested the Under 11 tournament with Jack Martin scoring in the semi-final win over Lions B and Lions A in the final that was decided on penalties. Ethan Herman, Dominic Feldman and Andy Gilbert converted from the spot for Lions C.

The day attracted over 70 teams and 550 children, from seven to 17.
