Manchester Maccabi 1 Queensway Celtic 2

Maccabi lost their unbeaten league record but put in a very good performance and were unlucky to lose.

They went 1-0 down when Woolfe was hesitant in coming off his line and was easily beaten by Jones. Maccabi quickly conceded a second when Jones cut inside Loofe and neatly slotted home.

Maccabi played some attractive football and put significant pressure on the Queensway goal. Both Stevens and Sidle, who hit the post, went close before Lavin scored with a stooping header from a Warwick cross after some exellent quick passing.

Maccabi lost both Warwick and Buxton through injury and youngsters Warner and Lewis came on to make their first appearances of the season.

Maccabi dominated the second half and Nadler, Tucker and Loofe repelled Queensway's occasional breaks. Alas, the eqaliser did not arrive although Maccabi came close on a number of occasions, notably a Nadler free kick bought a stunning save from the Queensway keeper and Lavin headed just the wrong side of the upright in the dying seconds.

Maccabi are away to GCJ at Brookhouse Park on Sunday, 11am kick off.
