articlemain

David Pinnick has been appointed joint-Vice-Chairman of Maccabi GB.

The appointment sees the MGB board join Daniel Collins as joint Vice-Chairman with immediate effect, a role that Collins has confirmed Pinnick will maintain when he takes the Chair from Michael Ziff in 2015.

Pinnick is one of Maccabi GB’s most experienced and respected lay leaders and Board Member. Most recently, he was General Team Manager for Team Maccabi GB at this year’s 19th Maccabiah Games, overseeing the Delegation of 440 who brought home 31 medals.

He first became engaged in the Maccabi Movement through playing Sunday morning Maccabi Football and after a long playing career Pinnick found his niche when he went in to team management with Junior Football teams, which introduced him to the wider movement. His passion for football first saw him appointed to an International event in 2003 when he became Football Chairman for Team Maccabi GB at the European Maccabi Games in Antwerp.

In 2005 he was appointed as Head of Football for Team Maccabi GB’s Maccabiah Games Squad and in 2007 he was appointed to the Maccabi GB Organising Committee for the European Games in Rome. In 2009 he David was given the prestigious position of Head of Delegation of Team Maccabi GB for the 18th Maccabiah Games, which he completed in style taking over 513 athletes in 27 sports.

Explaining the appointment, MGB chairman Michael Ziff said: "The role of Vice-Chairman has become a very demanding one with the organisation continually expanding its reach and role in communal life. Maccabi GB is now delivering over 250 different projects programmes and events each year."

In addition, Collins has also been appointed to the role of Head of Delegation for Team Maccabi GB at the European Games to be held in Berlin in 2015. Pinnick will primarily be involved in the area of administration and governance working closely with CEO Martin Berliner.

Daniel Collins said: "David and I have worked well together over a number of years and a number of International events, and I am more than happy that he has agreed to take on this role. David is an outstanding Maccabi GB leader."

David Pinnick said: "I am honoured to accept the role and look forward to continuing my close working relationship with Michael, Daniel and the MGB team. I think we have a fantastic product with outstanding lay and professional leaders.

"We make a difference to people’s lives and their Jewish identity and that should never be understated. We will look to maintain the growth of the last decade and continue to evolve Britain’s leading Anglo Jewish Sports Charity."

Speaking about the appointment and David Pinnick’s involvement in the organisation, MGB chairman Michael Ziff said: "David’s contribution to Maccabi GB, and in particular Team Maccabi GB during International Games, has been outstanding in every way. He has always been an exemplary lay person within the movement and truly believes in our ideals and mission of Jewish continuity through sport. It is a privilege and honour to have someone of David's experience, commitment and passion on our board."
