articlemain

Shahar Peer has reached the third round of the French Open after coming from a set down to beat American qualifier Bethanie Mattek.

Seeded 18 at Roland Garros, Peer made a sluggish start, going down 6-3 in the opener.

The Israeli powered back to win the next two sets for the loss of one game, breaking Mattek’s serve seven times.

Tougher opposition is expected in the next round with Peer facing 13th seed Marion Bartoli or Olivia Sanchez
