Peer ready to hit back

articlemain

Shahar Peer is determined to put in a strong performance at next week's Australian Open.

Peer is looking to regain the form that saw her reach number 11 in the WTA rankings last year.

The Israeli has slipped to 37 and needs to match her performance in Melbourne last year - when she reached the third round - to halt the slide.

Peer warmed up for the grand slam by reaching the third round at the Moorilla International in Hobart.

Peer said: "I want to get as many victories under my belt as possible this week to give me confidence for the Australian Open.

"I'm feeling very good about my tennis this year and, in the first-round win over Lucie Hradecka, I was able to do some of the things I've been working on during the winter break."

Dudi Sela is also brimming with confidence after moving up to 73 in the ATP rankings having reached the third round of the Chennai Open in India last week.

A good run in Melbourne could see him move closer to the top 50 and qualification for the Olympics.
