Peer eases into round three at US Open

Shahar Peer has reached the third round of the US Open after beating Pauline Parmentier in straight sets in the ladies singles.

Having accounted for Jelena Kostanic Tosic in her opener, Peer, seeded 16, eased home 6-2, 6-3 in just over an hour on Court 13.

Peer will meet 19th seed Flavia Panetta of Italy in the third round with Venus Williams a potential opponent in round four.

Dudi Sela made an impressive start in the men’s singles. He surprised Xavier Malisse (50) 7-6, 7-5, 6-2 on Court 7, serving seven aces in the process.

Sela will assume the underdog role in round two where he comes up against 12th seed Mikhail Youzhny.

Scott Lipsky, together with GB’s Ross Hutchings was eliminated in the first round of the men’s doubles.
