Nyman gets the nod

articlemain

Lara Nyman has been selected by the BTF to compete in the Corus Elite Sprint Triathlon, to be held at Reading on May 18.

The competition, which doubles as the Senior British Triathlon Sprint Championships and qualifier for the World Junior Triathlon Championships, will see the 15-year-old among a limited number of youth and junior triathletes chosen to gain experience from competing with the British elite athletes.

Nyman, who was recently crowned JC Junior Sportsperson of the Year, will be given VIP treatment with an overnight stay at the Madejski Stadium Hotel and attendance at a Triathletes Civic Reception the night before the race. The event will also be televised for Channel 4.

In her most recent outing, Nyman won the Under 20 Rayleigh Aquathlon and came second overall in the women’s open competition. With 90 female and male participants, she staked her claim with the fastest swim time. The race consisted of a 440 yard swim followed consecutively by a 5km run where she managed to retain her lead ahead of an athlete some two years senior who is currently ranked third in the county for 3000 metres.
