Modi'in Young Lions produce the shock of the season

articlemain

After the early season matches were interrupted by bad weather, the Night Action League is well under way with some teams producing some excellent results.

Gold Insurance BS Lightning, find themselves perched at the top of the table after a convincing 26-run victory over local rivals KAT Israemploy.

Gold's 111 proved too much for the KAT's 85, with Gold captain, Michael Lewis saying that he was "delighted with a decisive victory in this derby. We have strengthened our squad with Ilan Peretz and Leon Joseph and we look forward to playing against the Modi'in youth team after their impressive win over the senior team".

Yefeth Nagavkar's Modi'in Young Lions produced a major upset after they thumped the Modi'in Easy Israel side by a massive 126 runs.

Batting first, the Young Lions amassed 148 and then restricted their opponents to 22 to send shock waves through the league and a clear message to the other teams that this young, but talented side will be no pushovers.

Captain and coach Yefeth Nagavkar said he was "surprised to see the way the boys performed in their first-ever match against adults. They outplayed them in every department and hope we keep the up the same momentum for the upcoming matches against Gold and Pearl Dental".

The other youth team who are participating in the league, the Bet Shemesh Royals, did not have the same success as the Modi'in Young Lions after they suffered two consecutive defeats against the Modi'in Easy Israel team and unbeaten Pommeranz Juice Good Old Boys.

Batting first against MEI, the Royals struggled to come to terms with the faster pace and lost wickets at regular intervals to post a total of 48 thanks largely to Ariel Finkelstein and Yonah Barnett who shared a 21-run partnership which included a superb straight six by Barnett.

Captain Yonni Sidelsky juggled his bowlers around ensuring that they all had an opportunity to progress their game.

Ultimately, MEI's total of 121 was enough to beat the BSR as MEI made up for their embarrassing defeat to the MYL. The Bet Shemesh wicket takers were Yoav Brooke, Shalom Ofstein and Ariel Finkelstein.

The Bet Shemesh Royals faced unbeaten Pommeranz JGOB who expected a backlash after the previous weeks result. The fears were proved correct as the BSR produced a much better all-round performance with captain Yonni Sidelsky saying that he has never enjoyed playing cricket more than tonight. "What a great match," he said. "Our bowling and fielding were spectacular."

Although the young BSR were much improved, the experience and talent that the PJGOB have proved too much for the youngsters as their total of 124 proved too much for the BSR, who could only muster 44.

There is no doubt that as the BSR improve, their first win is around the corner, in what will be a richly deserved one.

This week, sees two unbeaten sides, Modi'in Young Lions and Gold Insurance Good Old Boys go head to head in the Thursday evening match with last season's champions, Pearl Dental CC looking for their first win of the season providing the Modi'in Young Lions with opposition on Saturday evening.
