Manchester Maccabi through to next County Cup round

articlemain

Two goals from Ashley Loofe helped Manchester Maccabi 1st into the fourth round of the County Cup as they beat Staff of Life 4-1.

Scott McGarvey’s troops went into the game on the back of two defeats and, bereft of any regular first team strikers due to injuries, they had to be on their guard against opponents from the Eccles Second Division.

Michael Freedman, 40, was deployed to lead the line alongisde David Herman, 17,. Maccabi broke the deadlock on 30 minutes when a David Chaytow corner created confusion in the opposition penalty area and a Staff player diverted the ball into his own net. Herman doubled their lead five minutes later.

Staff of David pulled one back but after a half time grilling from Manchester United old boy McGavery, Maccabi stepped up a gear in the second half with Loofe finding the target twice.

Victory takes Maccabi into the last 16. However, their next challenge comes on Sunday, against South Manchester in the first round of the Morrison.
