London Lions increase table lead after 5-1 win

articlemain

London Lions reserves extended their lead at the top of the Herts Senior County League Reserve Division One with a 5-1 victory over Cuffley.

In one of only four matches played in the league, an excellent all-round team performance saw the Lions run out comfortable winners, although the match was closer than the scoreline suggests.

The Lions forged ahead when Nick Goodman galloped down the right. His driven cross was turned into his own goal, under pressure from the Jason Goldstein, by a Cuffley defender.

Cuffley equalised but the Lions restored their advantage when a move involving Tim Becker, Bradley Lazarus and Aron Barnes resulted with the latter crossing for Goldstein who rifled the ball into the net.

Dan Helman made it 3-1 after beating three men and sending a stinging shot past the keeper.

The hosts started to pass the ball at will and put a gloss on the result with two further strikes. Barnes capped a fine display with a sweet strike from Goldstein’s through ball before the two switched roles, Goldstein nipping in front of the defender to apply a brilliant first-time finish.

Lions: Danny Berliner, Danny Schindler, Miles Beerman, Ross Pincus (sub: Aron Barnes), Daniel Helman, David Newman, Tim Becker, Bradley Lazarus (sub: Andy Glynne), Jason Goldstein, Nick Goodman, Adam Stolerman. Sub not used: Ben Grossman
