LMV unstoppable

articlemain

London Maccabi Vale 2nd returned to winning ways as they put Belmont & Edgware 1st to the sword, winning by six wickets in the Middlesex Sunday League Division Three.

BECC went into the game on the back of a defeat against MAL, and they were unable to stop LMV in their second tight finish in a week at the Met Police Ground in Bushey. BECC skipper Ashley Connick won the toss and elected to bat first. His side got off to a strong start with an opening partnership of 60 between Alex Goodman, who went on to make 63, and Dan Abrahams.

Abrahams fell for 22, the start of a remarkable collapse at the hands of Vale captain Jonathan Lederman, who took five wickets in a spell of swing bowling of the highest quality.

With the score at 125-8 after 30 overs, Warren Averbuch, with the help of first Nick McLeod and then Neil Myeroff, took the score to a respectable 194-9, making an unbeaten 36.

In reply, Vale got off to a good start, with a solid platform built by Nigel Rothband and Mark Spanjar, before Spanjar was removed and Rothband was joined by Harris.

The pair put on a partnership which took Vale to within 60 runs of their target, before former BECC skipper Wienburg bowled Maccabiah convenor Rothband for 53.

Harris was removed, along with Cantor, in one Myeroff over, but Daniel Caplin and Lederman carried on the good work in the middle overs of running well and finding the boundaries occasionally, and steered Vale to a six-wicket victory off the first ball of the final over.

For the second week in a row, BECC came off second-best from a close contest where the margin of victory was not as wide as it may initially seem.

BECC 194-9 - Goodman 63, Averbuch 36*; Lederman 5-35
Vale 195-4 - Rothband 53, Harris 40
