In the current gloomy economic times, it is good to know that you can rely on the Lion cubs to bring us all some cheer at the weekends.

This was the team's third game against first division opposition in the cup and it was great at last to come out on top with a positive result and to progress to the quarter finals in this competition.

The pitch was sticky and difficult to play passing football on, however, Lions' battling efforts over the 80 minutes meant we fully deserved to win.

All boys contributed but special praise once again must go to our keeper Daniel Lipman. He made several outstanding saves and was once again superb. In fact so good have his performances been in November since he took over the gloves that Ollie had no hesitation in naming him player of the month straight after the game.

The first half was a tight affair and with both sides only having limited chances there was no score at the break.

However and following the re-start the Lions found themselves quickly 1-0 down when the opposition broke down the left and the ball was squared for the opposition forward to find himself unmarked in the middle.

Lions countered by equalising almost straight away when the ball find itself to Harry on the right edge of the area and although the keeper parried it he couldn't stop his well struck shot going in.

The game then opened up a little with both sides having chances but our defence and in particular Daniel keeping them at bay. Even when Lions conceded a penalty the luck was on our side as the opposition hit the outside of the post.

With seven mins to go ball worked its way through to Charlie Rubin and as he cut in on his left foot he hit a trademark screamer and with the help of a small deflection Lions were 2-1 ahead.

Lions held on until the end, giving their all and came out with a deserved victory at the final whistle.

Victory sets us up very nicely for the three remaining league games prior to the holiday break and we start with London Colney away next week.
