Manchester Maccabi 1st progressed into the next round of the County Manchester County Cup after beating Middleton Colts 3-2.

In a re-arranged tie, it was colts who settled first, but a couple of long range shots did not really trouble Dan Garman in the Maccabi goal

Middleton, who are top of the Rochdale and District Sunday League and unbeaten so far this season winning three drawing one, gave a way a free kick in the 19th minute which was quickly taken. After some quick passing, Mark Woolfe played a lovely ball into Adam Lavin’s feet and he coolly slotted home.

It was now Maccabi who’s tails were up and scored a second in the 27th minute, A free kick taken by Lavin was saved by the keeper. The ball then found Rafi Leeker. His first time cross was sidefooted home by the advancing Michael Sacks.

The game was as good as over four minutes into the second half when a through ball by Jonny Davies found Josh Rubin who passed to Leeker to hit an unstoppable half volley from 25 yards.

Maccabi could and should have had more as the Middleton’s heads dropped at being outplayed.

Middleton did not let their heads drop and they pulled two goals back in the last 10 minutes.
