A brace from Greg Corin saw Hendon boost their title hopes as they went top following a 4-2 victory over Brixton at Clowes.

Further strikes from Ben Kon and Jacob Gold completed the job.

Corin put Hendon in front after 28 minutes, but two minutes later Hendon's goalkeeper brought down a Brixton player when he was one on one, and being the last man Brixton felt he should have been sent from the field of play, but referee only showed a yellow card. Brixton missed the resultant penalty.

Corin then scored his and Hendon's second with a typically twinkle-toed run and the visitors went on to score a third.

However, Adam Arnold pulled a goal back to make it 3-1 in the 75 minute. Whilst Brixton were pressing for a second goal, Hendon broke away to score their fourth.

Arnold scored from the spot in the last kick of the game to make 2-4.

Hendon manager David Garbacz told JC Sport: "This was a fine win on a difficult small heavy pitch against a good young and skilful Brixton team. Although we did not quite reach the heights of last week we did do enough to get the points and it was one of those games where the result was all important.

"The first 20 minutes were relatively even, but once Greg took over with a brilliant first half brace the result was never really in doubt.

"Brixton have a number of good young talented players, but for me the one who shone above all the youth was the experience of Ari Last who slowly but surely grabbed control of a congested midfield and was the inspiration behind our win.

"The win puts us top of the league for the first time this season although we are well aware others have games in hand. Assuming the weather holds off, we have set us up nicely for next week’s humdinger against Faithfold. We wish Brixton all the best in their fight against relegation this year."

Brixton boss John Nitka told JC Sport: "This was a game we should have won. We had sufficient opportunities to score more.

"Overall we played well and matched Hendon albeit we didn't score when needed and they did."
