Koffman and Korn impress in Salford win

Salford claimed an impressive 80-run victory over Haughton Green CC in the Greater Manchester Amateur League Division Three.

In the penultimate encounter of the season, Salford Jewish CC hosted Haughton Green CC in a middle of the table clash.

After losing the toss and being put into bat, Salford openers Jonny Wineberg and Elliot Koffman got the innings off to a solid start before Wineberg was bowled for 11.

Jeremy Korn strode to the crease and the two set about putting together a 100-run partnership that set the tone for the Salford innings.

Koffman – in impervious form – hit two huge sixes in an innings of 55 whilst Korn matched the scoring rate all the way in a run-a-ball knock of 49.

The two youngest members of the Salford side, Alex and Jamie Benjamin, came together to score 35 runs in the closing four overs to leave Salford finished on an above-par total of 183. Alex Linekar impressed with the ball for the visitors, claiming two wickets for 30 runs.

In reply, Haughton Green never seemed likely to reach the target, with only three batsmen making more than 15 runs.

John Hesketh held the innings together with a well-paced 51, with Caleb Blake providing support with an attacking 21.

With Salford taking regular wickets and putting in a superlative effort in the field, achieving the target became less and less likely, with youngster Jamie Benjamin starring once again with the ball, taking 3-27, ably supported by Daniel Paul (2-20) and Jonny Wineberg (2-26).

HGCC were all out for 103, leaving Salford to take the spoils by an 80-run margin, rewarded through an excellent performance.
