GB'S juniors accounted for almost half of the gold medals at the European Maccabi Games in Vienna.

While Zak Zilesnick stole the show in table tennis, David Garcia was the star turn in badminton. He also brought home three gold – the singles crown, the Junior Boys doubles, together with Yossi Goodlink, and the mixed doubles title with Natasha Collins.

There were also outstanding performances in football, futsal, swimming and golf. Junior managers Brian Green and David Jacobs praised the efforts of their squad.

Green said: "We're absolutely delighted with the medal haul which included 15 golds.

"It surpassed our expectations and was a just reward for the very professional approach each squad had prepared for the Games by our excellent management team.

"We were particularly excited to be taking competitors in swimming, badminton and fencing for the first time to the European Games and reintroduced golf and basketball squads."

Jacobs said: "The successful performance of all the squads bodes well for the future as most of the athletes will make up the nucleus of the squads for the Maccabiah in two years' time.

"It was an honour and a privilege to take charge of such a wonderful team of players, managers and medical staff."
