Jerusalem crowned Anglo League champions 2011/12

Two goals from Jerusalem's star striker Moshe Lewis sealed a gritty 2-2 draw against Jaffa to secure the Anglo title in one of the tightest finishes on record.

Going into the final encounter of a long season, Jerusalem knew a win or or draw would secure the title. A victory for Jaffa meanwhile, would hand top spot to England, last year's runaway winners.

Jaffa also had plenty to play for besides pride with third place up for grabs for the boys in orange.

Lewis set off in typically rampant fashion. Hitting the bar within a minute of kick-off and then grabbing the lead after dispossessing the Jaffa keeper.

Jaffa responded with two quickfire goals. The first was a fine left-footed free-kick from Rani Madmon and the second a terrific flick up and headed finish from Esi Bildosola.

With Tel Aviv now in the box seat for the title, Lewis stepped up again with a surging run down the right and near post finish to put Jerusalem back to the top of the table.

The first half ebbed and flowed with Jaffa dominating possession but Jerusalem left back Yoel Finchas missed a golden chanced to regain the lead just before the break.

Whilst nervy, the second half was devoid of many clear cut chances as both teams tired on a hot summer's night. Jerusalem played on the break and were superbly marshalled at the back by Dan Kosky and Danny Newman.

Relief was palpable on the Jerusalem bench as the final whistle went to secure a well deserved league title. An open top bus tour is planned in Jerusalem for after the three weeks.

Jerusalem's title winning captain Dan Kosky said: "We got our just rewards for a great season. We've managed to blend some excellent young players with experienced old heads to produce some quality performances. At times, we've played some outstanding football. But we've also got a real belief and determination in the team and we've really battled for points when needed.

"We'll allow ourselves to have a bit of a celebration, but we'll soon be turning our attention to defending our title next season."
